Our love story begins on the campus of the University of Detroit Mercy, where the paths of a beautiful Michigander and a far from home Long Islander would first cross. Mackenzie, a nursing student and standout member of the school's Dance Team, and Chris, a soon to be graduate student and captain of the Men's Lacrosse Team, first met at an on campus blood drive.
While the spark was set, it was a slow burn of fleeting glances around campus and knowing one another from a distance. It was not until a year or so later, that a social media friend request and a prompt response were the embers that reignited our relationship. Truly, our relationship was built on being one another's best friend and biggest supporters, as we both motivated one another to unlock our full potential not only in professional athletics, but in the adventure that is life.
Time sure flies when you're having fun, but even more so when in love. After we had created the foundations for our lives together, the hardest part was surprising a woman that seemed to sniff out anything. Under the guise of Pro Bowl activities in Orlando and that Chris was arriving in Florida later than he actually was, Mackenzie found herself truly surprised in a botanical garden with Chris set to propose. A large tree draped with illuminated lanterns towered over us, symbolic that of the many amazing bright moments in our lives, the source of it all was each other.
